Boy gets FREE hair cut from Springfield Sec School

Just a very short post (I hope lol).

I was surfing STOMP's website just now and saw this article about a 14-year-old boy from Springfield Secondary School whose hair was 'unevenly' cut by his teacher because he didn't adhere to school rules to keep short hair (I suppose). I presume that his mother wrote to the newspapers about it because it was first reported on the New Paper on 7 January. She claimed that about 7cm of his hair had been cut off. His mother even called the police and complained to the Ministry of Education (MOE) upon arriving in school to see her poor little son being in a state of 'trauma'.

AND ALL I GOTTA SAY IS:

BOY AH, PLEASE DON'T BE A BABY CAN???
When you go to NS (National Service), your hair will be cut by the SAF barber also. Then is your mother gonna cry to SAF, make a police report and whine about it on newspaper again? LOL.

Seriously, I am pretty sure that any school would have given plenty of verbal warnings first before proceeding to chop off a student's hair if he/she doesn't adhere to acceptable hair lengths according to the school rules.

In fact, according to the newspaper, this is the SECOND time that his hair is being cut by the school. The first time happened last year whereby about 1cm was cut away as a warning. And he still didn't learn his lesson huh!

Since it's the beginning of a new school term, isn't it a student's responsibility to trim their hair neatly before they attend school? If you're the student's parent, shouldn't you bother to check on your child first to make sure that everything is okay before they go to school? Fact is, you as the parent DID NOT.

Since his mother didn't bother (I assume) and her son didn't care about adhering to school rules either (I assume again), then it is definitely RIGHT for the school to discipline its students accordingly. The teacher, educator and school did no wrong.

AND FYI, IT IS NOT BARBARIC.

Rather, it is because of parents LIKE YOU who make a fuss about every little strand of missing hair (pun intended) that brings about the rise of INSOLENT kids these days.

Think about it.

WHEN THE SCHOOL DISCIPLINES YOUR CHILD, YOU CRY.

WHEN YOUR CHILD CARRY A PARANG, YOU ALSO CRY.

Then what do you want???!!

In fact, the teen should be more ashamed of his mum's behaviour because look, she has brought the haircut incident to a whole new level by publicizing it. What could have been a quiet punishment in school is now broadcast to the entire nation. Now everyone knows what kind of spectacles you are wearing, which school you are from and it really won't take long to guess your name either. All thanks to your 43 year old mother, Madam Yeo, a general manager - so says the newspapers lol. Tsk tsk.

During my time in secondary school (in the late 90s, lololol okok quit counting my age hor), I had to carry medicine ball (which weighs about 5-10kg) and jog a few rounds around the field with it as punishment for .... I can't remember why actually lol.

YOU THOUGHT I'M KIDDING AH? There's really something called Medicine Ball ok.. very heavy one. When carry, already very heavy. Imagine you have to JOG WITH IT somemore!! O.O

I even had to sorta scrap/file my fingernails against the coarse carpark flooring in my school as punishment for not cutting my uber long fingernails. But I'm smart, when the teacher was not looking, I simply bite my finger nails off, then pretend to scrap it, and then tell my teacher I'm done. LOL. That is called LIFE SKILL ok.  =P

I admit that I thought that my teacher was a bit crazy and I hated her lol. BUT... it did deter me from not cutting my fingernails after that. I became very aware and always made it a point to check myself every week before going to school. That teacher damn scary one ok...  =/

My classmates went through similar "punishments" too.
And yet, none of our parents complained.
It even built camaraderie between my classmates and I hahaha. We study together, have fun together, go through punishments together and pass exams together!!  =D

And I have only named two out of the many types of punishment my batch went through. There's even superman style pumping. You want to know how? I can teach you!! LOL.  =X

BUT LOOK AT US NOW!
My classmates and I have all grown up to be beautiful people with some moral values and some level of discipline. And I thank my school teachers for it. It did not just instil discipline in us but it also made us a better person overall. There's so many wonderful memories from secondary school when I think about it now! Even the punishments seem damn fun to me now lol!! Really!!

P/S: NONE OF MY CLASSMATES (INCLUDING MYSELF) HAVE BEEN TRAUMATISED OR BECAME CRAZY AFTER GRADUATING. WE ARE STILL PERFECTLY FINE. LOL.

SO QUIT WHINING YOU LITTLE KIDS.

AND FOR THE PARENTS:
QUIT PAMPERING YOUR BIG BABIES. LET THE SCHOOL DISCIPLINE YOUR KID IF YOU CANNOT.

Children nowadays are a pampered lot, spoiled by theit parents and maid,
discipline at school is a must
before they enter the real world,
or maybe they want to bring their maid along?

Well said! Its utterly disgusting to witness the extend to which parents are pampering the future generation(s). How can we depend on these delicate kids in future when all they have in their dictionary is "cry to mummy & daddy to solve problems"! Gone case...
